As Hauke 2025 draws closer, we'll post updates to the schedule here.
This year we'll be throwing in a couple side attractions. Think of them as extra flavor events for those that want something more than classes but less formal and serious than the two official tournaments. We wanted to let you know ahead of time so that everyone can be sure to have the appropriate implements to hand. (Details below)
In the spirit of 18th century British "Masters of the Noble Science of Defence", who risked serious injury and disfigurement in order to demonstrate their expertise with all manner of 'antiquated' weapons in front of raucous crowds, in the never-ending quest for fame and glory - and sometimes money - Hauke 2025 presents Captain Vinegar's Singlestick Challenge!
Don't fret, our version only involves risk of minor injury, and there's no prize money to be had, though scant glory, and the smallest measurable amount of fame can be obtained. This trial of skill comes with a much more casual approach; interested participants will meet throughout the weekend to fight as many or as few bouts at singlestick as each chooses, following the pre-determined rules. They will record their bouts in Captain Vinegar's Singlestick Notebook! and at the end of the weekend, the participants will be recognized.
Details are still being hammered out, but this will basically take the form of an informal messer/falchion tournament. So, bring your training messers/falchions (but leave the bohurt falchions at home, we're not going for concussions).
